ARUSHA: The Tanzania Media Fund (TMF) is now accepting applications from journalists for its fellowship program. The application deadline is 31 March 2010. Those awarded will be given an opportunity to travel to different parts of the country to write on issues that could break fresh ground for media coverage in Tanzania.

African applications invited for entrepreneurship MBA scholarships

Four entrepreneurs who aspire to build and develop their business skills will be fortunate enough to access scholarships which have been made available to study the 2010/11 Entrepreneurship MBA at the University of Pretoria's Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS). Three of these scholarships are being offered to exceptional individuals from sub-Saharan Africa through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark (Danida), while the fourth will be made available by GIBS to an exceptional South African female.

Tyco to run marine survey

Herakles Telecom has awarded the Sea Cable System (SEACOM) marine survey to Tyco Telecommunications, a business unit of Tyco Electronics. The 13,000km marine survey commences the development of the undersea fibre-optic network which will provide high capacity bandwidth connectivity between South Africa, Madagascar, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, India and Europe.

TVAfrica provides education solution for Africa

For two weeks starting on March 13, TVAfrica (trade name for Africa Media Group) tested a world-first" broadcast. Two schools, one in Tanzania and one in Botswana, phoned into tele-educator William Smith and his Learning Channel team during separate hours and had their math, science and English curriculum questions answered live on television. Nowhere else in the world has first-class technology been put to use to create a live transnational broadcast to 10 countries. It happened in Africa.
